Where to stay in Nadi
- Denarau Island: a resort enclave with a marina where most ferries to the outer islands depart.

- Nadi Town: the main street of shops, the produce market and the Hindu temple.
Getting around Nadi
Local buses are cheap and frequent along the main road, and taxis are plentiful; agree the fare before setting off if the meter is not used. Ferries and fast catamarans from Port Denarau serve the Mamanuca and Yasawa islands.
Best time to visit Nadi
May to October, the cooler dry season; November to April is hotter and wetter, with a risk of cyclones.
Top things to do in Nadi
- Visit the Sri Siva Subramaniya Temple, a brightly painted Hindu temple at the edge of town, dressed with shoulders and knees covered
- Walk through the orchid collection at the Garden of the Sleeping Giant in the Sabeto hills
- Soak in the Sabeto mud pools and hot springs north of town
- Take a day cruise from Port Denarau to snorkel off one of the small Mamanuca islands
- Watch the sunset with a cold drink from the sand at Wailoaloa Beach
What to eat in Nadi
- Kokoda: raw fish marinated in lime and mixed with coconut cream, chilli and vegetables
- Lovo: a feast of meat, fish and root vegetables wrapped in leaves and cooked in an earth oven
- Roti and curry: Indo-Fijian curries eaten with soft flatbread, cheap and filling in town
- Kava: a mildly numbing drink made from a pepper root, shared from a communal bowl
Day trips from Nadi
- Mamanuca Islands: white-sand islands and coral reefs, from about 30 minutes to two hours by boat from Port Denarau
- Sigatoka Sand Dunes National Park: high coastal dunes with walking trails, roughly an hour and a quarter by road
- Natadola Beach: a long, sheltered white-sand beach on the Coral Coast, about an hour by road
Local etiquette
In villages, dress modestly, take off your hat and shoes when entering homes, and bring a bundle of kava root as a gift, called a sevusevu, for the chief. A friendly "bula" works as a greeting almost everywhere.
Staying connected
Prepaid SIMs from Vodafone Fiji and Digicel are sold at the airport arrivals hall and in town, and Wi-Fi is common in hotels but can be slow on the outer islands.
Staying safe
Petty theft is the main concern in town, so keep valuables out of sight and use registered taxis at night. Take the sun seriously, and check forecasts during the cyclone season from November to April.
A local tip
Visit the Nadi produce market in the morning, when it is busiest, to see stalls of kava root, tropical fruit and root vegetables.
